Scientific-research activity:
Planned research orientation of the hospital: The main focus of the hospital is to support the implementation of primary basic and experimental research and development of researchers within intradisciplinary cooperation as a partner of financially stable applicants for non-repayable financial assistance in medical, natural, technical, human and social sciences in terms of their own scientific focus. Our current vision is to build a Comprehensive Oncology Centre in a pleasant environment with the help of valuable staff, modern medical equipment, and with the latest knowledge to provide and expand services with an emphasis on individual approach to a patient.
Research plan – Department of Clinical and Radiation Oncology
A planning study aimed at reducing the radiation exposure of the heart in radiotherapy of left breast cancer by applying the SIB IMRT technique to different phases of the 4D CT respiratory cycle.
- Study of the limitation of chin rotation possibility when irradiating tumours in the head and neck area using an RT mask with an Integra bite block. The offline statistical evaluation of head rotation – planning CT vs. CBCT without and using Integra bite during the entire radiotherapy length.
Assumption: The Integra bite application will limit the rotation of the head/chin in the mask (especially towards the end of the irradiation cycle when the patient loses weight, thus improving irradiation accuracy.
Use of MR compatible fixation aids for radiotherapy in brain tumours. The comparison of contouring accuracy and the application of RT plan using fusion of diagnostic MR and therapeutic MR with planning CT.
Use of MR compatible fixation aids for radiotherapy in prostate tumours. The comparison of contouring accuracy and application of RT plan using fusion of therapeutic MR with planning CT.
Research plan – Department of Neurology
Centre for demyelinating diseases
Active search for patients with multiple sclerosis and NMOSD, comprehensive diagnostics and adjusting for the DMT treatment. Monitoring the disease status in patients with multiple sclerosis and NMOSD already treated with DMD, modification of DMT treatment, treatment of acute attack in the Department of Neurology. Dispensary care for patients with multiple sclerosis.
Treatment of spasticity with a baclofen pump
Research plan – in the field of hospital pharmacy and clinical pharmacy
- Antimicrobial stewardship – prudent use of antimicrobial drugs in AGEL Komárno Hospital
- Implementation of the standard diagnostic and therapeutic procedure of the Slovak Republic Ministry of Health on the introduction of antimicrobial policy into real-world practice.
- Multidisciplinary cooperation in the range of doctor-nurse-hospital pharmacist/ clinical pharmacist-microbiologist.
- Point prevalent survey – the evaluation of antimicrobial treatment at the Individual departments of the hospital.
- Therapeutic monitoring of the levels of some antimicrobials: gentamicin, vancomycin, amikacin. Appropriate dosage adjustment based on the measured drug levels.
- The development of individually prepared drugs (IPL) – the introduction of new formulas, new active substances according to the requirements of departments/patients in therapeutic practice. Replacement of deficient drugs in the form of IPL
- The development of oncological pharmacy in the AGEL Komárno Hospital. Since June 2021, the Department of Cytostatics Preparation of the Hospital Pharmacy has been operating, therefore our great effort is to develop this department to the European level.
- The implementation of European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy into real-world practice: In 2014, the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) approved the so-called European Statement of Hospital Pharmacy to optimize the competences of hospital pharmacists in Europe. Since 2016, the EAHP has been working intensively to ensure that the individual statements are implemented in real-world practice in the same way in each country. As the ambassador for the Slovak Republic in this project is PharmDr. Hajnalka Komjáthy, PhD, we place great emphasis on the development of clinical pharmacy and patient safety.
Clinical studies
- A clinical trial is currently in progress at the outpatient clinic and the Department of Clinical and Radiation Oncology:
- Study Domajor BCD-100-3 – international multicentre randomized double-blind phase 3 study, dedicated to 1-line treatment of patients with advanced non-squamous lung cancer,
- Screening study – selection of patients with advanced or metastatic lung cancer, potentially suitable /based on testing/ for participation in an international study
EŠF Projects
New building of emergency admission department in Komárno Hospital
The aim of the project is to build an emergency central admission department. By fulfilling it, the AGEL Komárno Hospital will increase the complexity, the productivity and the quality of the provided health care, and improve medical indicators. The length of hospitalization and the occupancy rate of acute beds and the improvement of the financial situation.
Building of material-technical capacity of AGEL Komárno Hospital in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic
The aim of the project is the capacity building in the health system and protection of public health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. By fulfilling it, the AGEL Komárno Hospital will increase the complexity, the productivity and the quality of the provided health care.
